For its 140th anniversary, the company decided to release a special version of the Thorens TD 124 DD model. The main noticeable improvement was the appearance of a two-layer disc, in which a five-millimeter layer of pure copper was added to a solid aluminum base. This solution not only made the disc more massive, but also allowed it to better combat vibrations - resonances of layers made of two different metals are mutually damped.
The second important upgrade was the replacement of the wiring in the tonearm with a cable with wires made of pure silver, the same upgrade was also undergone by the complete Ortofon SPU MC cartridge. The coils in it are now wound with silver wire, and the outer casing of the head is made of bakelite.
